The family Sallier de La Tour dei Principi di Castelcicala has its origins in the union between two historic houses with the marriage of Giuseppe Amedeo dei Conti Sallier de La Tour, Marquises of Cordon with Carolina Corio Princess of Castelcicala and Duchess of Calvello in 1893.
In fact, it is from this place and in particular from the hill on which the Castle of Cicala stands that the title of Castelcicala comes from. This dates back to 1719 when Fabrizio Ruffo, second born to the III Duke of Bagnara, born in Nola in 1648, bought the estate from the Royal Court and was conferred the title of 1st Baron of Castelcicala. By direct descendancy, the title of Princes of Castelcicala bestowed on the son Paolo with the diploma of Emperor Carlo VI in 1729, continues with the son Fabrizio II Prince of Castelcicala, first Duke of Calvello, a plenipotentiary minister of Lisbon, London and Paris, Counsellor and Minister of the State, and furthermore Paolo, III Prince of Castelcicala, second Duke of Calvello General, Plenipotentiary minister of Vienna, St Petersburg and London, Lieutenant General to King Ferdinand II and Francesco II in Sicily, so to Giustina and at the end Carolina bride of Sallier de La Tour. Giuseppe Amedeo dei Conti Sallier de La Tour, Marquis of Cordon and Carolina Corio Princess of Castelcicala and Duchess of Calvello were my great grandparents, these where the people who for the longest period of time lived in the Villa Castelcicala where I live now with my wife Barbara and our children. |
